Instead, it explored the practical questions that every organisation, business and practitioner should be asking themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-3\" style=\"color:#f7cd84;font-size:28px\">Are our current safeguarding processes effective?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-4\" style=\"color:#f7cd84;font-size:28px\">Are we recognising concerns early enough?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-5\" style=\"color:#f7cd84;font-size:28px\">Do our staff feel confident about what to do?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-6\" style=\"color:#f7cd84;font-size:28px\">How do we support the person at the centre of a safeguarding concern?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-7\" style=\"color:#f7cd84;font-size:28px\">How do we look after ourselves and our colleagues after dealing with a difficult safeguarding situation?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-8 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"color:#f7cd84;font-size:28px\">Too often, safeguarding is seen as a policy that sits on a shelf or a box to tick. The group shared their experience and filled in the gaps together. Over one powerful weekend, What Makes the Difference CIC collaborated with the Veterans Community Working Party (VCWP) to co-create an experience that was as restorative as it was reflective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-26 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"color:#f7cd84;font-size:28px\">This wasn\u2019t just another woodland retreat. Before a single log was moved or a fire lit, we sat down with members of the VCWP to explore one key question:<br><strong>\u201cWhat would you like this weekend to feel like?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-28 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"color:#f7cd84;font-size:28px\">By placing veterans at the centre of the planning process, we ensured that every part of the experience reflected their hopes, values, and needs. Are the paths we take always the ones we <em>want<\/em> \u2013 or just the ones that are easiest? Are we following familiar tracks, or carving our own way through life?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-32 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"color:#f7cd84;font-size:28px\">In partnership with Dr Peter Brambleby\u2019s ecological restoration project, veterans physically shaped the land \u2013 building small waterfalls, clearing invasive species, and engaging in mindful woodland activities like whittling and wild cooking. It allowed participants to name their insights, share their growth, and identify practical changes to bring back into their families, communities, and other working parties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-39 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"color:#f7cd84;font-size:28px\">Many veterans spoke of a renewed clarity about the small shifts they could make at home \u2013 just as they had done in the stream. Others reflected on how the co-creation process gave them a deeper sense of agency and ownership \u2013 something many had longed for after service life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why This Matters: Veteran Wellbeing Through Nature and Narrative<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-40 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"color:#f7cd84;font-size:28px\">At What Makes the Difference CIC, we believe deeply in the power of <strong>place-based wellbeing<\/strong> and <strong>veteran-led co-production<\/strong>. Our collaboration with VCWP at Fishponds Woods brought both to life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-41 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"color:#f7cd84;font-size:28px\">This wasn\u2019t therapy \u2013 but it was therapeutic. It wasn\u2019t a lecture \u2013 but it was deeply educational.
